Description

Diploma in Business Studies

This part-time programme extends the knowledge that business studies students gained in the certificate year and offers instruction in specific streams. Its core subjects are cost accounting, economics, and business and company law. Students choose another subject from one of four streams: accounting, marketing, information systems management, human resource management.

Audience

The Diploma is a very good choice for those who would want to extend their knowledge of business policy and practices and obtain a degree of expertise about a specific field of relevance or interest to them.

Delivery and Duration

This programme takes two academic years. It begins in late September and ends with examinations in mid-April. It can be taken in three different ways:

  • Evening lectures at the IPA in Dublin
  • Evening lectures at selected regional centres
  • Distance education

All students attend several weekend seminars and tutorials at the IPA.

Programme Content

The Certificate consists of three common subjects—economics, organisation & management, and European studies—and, depending on the stream chosen, a fourth subject from one of the following:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Marketing Information Analysis
  • Organizational Behaviour
  • Information Systems Design and Development

Accreditation

The Diploma in Public Management is accredited by the National University of Ireland (NUI).

Progression

The Diploma is both a stand-alone qualification and the second year of the four-year Bachelor of Business Studies (Hons). On successful completion of this year, students can enter the third year of the degree programme.

Assessment

This programme is assessed through assignments and final examinations.
