This course equips students with the skills and knowledge to care for patients in a safe and hygienic environment. They learn about the roles and responsibilities of the care worker and acquire practical skills for work in caring environments.
They gain an understanding of the nursing process, appreciate the models of care and develop an awareness of nursing ethics and etiquette in care situations.
They are educated on the ageing process and how to provide individualised holistic care for the older person. Students are introduced to the area of sociology and social studies and study the levels of personal development. In addition, students are afforded the opportunity to further their personal development and enhance their communication skills.
QUALIFICATIONS GAINED: Portobello Institute Certificate in Community Care Assistant FETAC Level 5 Major Award, Certificate in Community Care DCHCC.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. Acceptance to full time courses is interview-based. There are no specific points requirements.
