This part-time certificate course provides initial training, specialised knowledge and skills needed for graduates who wish to teach English as a Foreign Language. The course covers Basic Teaching Skills, Teaching Practice, Language Analysis, Theories and Approaches to Language Teaching, English as a Foreign Language Methodology, Grammar Presentation, Syllabus Design, Testing, Evaluation, Introduction to Linguistics, English for Special Purposes, Portfolio Preparation, Micro-teaching, Teaching Young Learners, Assessment of Young Learners, Teaching Adults, Multicultural Education, Modern Developments in English as a Foreign Language and Teaching Overseas. Classes are held on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from mid-October to May between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sessions are in the form of lectures, micro-teaching and a minimum of fifty hours supervised teaching practice. Teaching practice is arranged by, and takes place in NUI Galway during the course. |
