Certificate in Irish Government and Politics
The Programme
The Certificate in Irish Government and Politics is a one-year, part-time programme that introduces students to the political institutions and systems that determine how Ireland is governed. It has two main components. The first explains the powers of the Dáil and the Seanad, the voting system in operation, and the organisation of government. The second part of the course focuses on social administration in Ireland, outlining, among other things, how welfare, education, and housing services are delivered.
Audience
This introductory-level programme will appeal to all those who are interested in the institutions, structures and systems through which Ireland is governed. It will attract students from the public, private, and voluntary sectors and those who need to reacquaint themselves with the Irish political system.
Delivery and Duration
This programme takes one academic year. It begins in late September and ends with examinations in mid April. It is delivered through a blend of one-day seminars at the IPA in Dublin and self-directed study.
Accreditation
The programme is accredited by the National University of Ireland (NUI). It is a 15-credit (Special Purpose Award) qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Assessment
This programme is assessed by means of written assignments and final exams. |
