This course is designed to introduce learners to the area of sociology and social studies, and to develop their understanding and awareness of social issues in their own lives and society in general. Students develop basic research skills and learn to recognise the complexity of social issues.
Students will be guided through a range of psychological theories, which have relevance to their own lives and to the understanding of work practice. These psychological perspectives provide a basis for understanding interpersonal behaviour and the link between theory and practice will be emphasised.
Students explore, reflect and analyze equality and diversity of people and their rights and responsibilities providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for active, positive participation in a complex, diverse and rapidly changing society.
QUALIFICATIONS GAINED:Portobello Institute Certificate in Applied Social Studies FETAC Level 5 Major Award, Certificate in Applied Social Studies EASSX.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Entry to this course is by direct application to the college. Acceptance to full time courses is interview-based. There are no specific points requirements.
