CAO CODE: MH202 Biotechnology is the application of living organisms or their components to provide either a product or a service. The range of applications includes the production of recombinant proteins, antibodies and other immunodiagnostic reagents, the production of cheese, fermented milk products, beer, wine, food additives, antibiotics and other biopharmaceuticals, new crop or ornamental plant varieties. Living organisms are also used for controlling plant pests, cleaning up toxic contaminants and the extraction of mineral ores.
