Description
CAO Code AH002 The Course This four year BA programme (CAO Code AH002) enables students to achieve a competence in Theology and Psychology. At registration students may opt to take their degree either on a Theology Major basis with Psychology as a subsiderary subject or on a Joint Major basis where they will have equal credits in Theology and their other chosen subjects. What is Theology? Theology is talk about the experience of God. Over four years, students study and dialogue with the Christian understanding of the experience of God as reflected historically in the Scriptures, Church teachings and the work of outstanding theologians. Courses in practical and moral theology consider the meaning of the Christian response in increasingly complex socio-historical contexts. Attention is also paid to Ecumenism and what Christianity can learn from other Faiths. Courses in Philosophy are taken in Year One and, in their second year, students participate in a field placement and reflect on their experience of e.g. teaching, youth work, prison work, communications, hospital visitation. This helps students integrate theology and life. What is Psychology? Psychology is discourse about the nature and phenomena of the soul/mind and develops understandings of the human person and his/her relationships with self, family and society.
