This degree program provides studies in various aspects of film and television production, focusing on film history, genres, technical background and skills. The program provides a unique hands-on study of professional motion picture and video production. You will explore the creative application of major production roles, including directing, scriptwriting, camera, sound and editing.
Using film and video, you will learn how to work with a team to bring your own vision to life on screen. This practical experience will be supported by informative art history and practice programs. Developing advanced skills, you will be ready to make an informed contribution to the film and television industries as a practitioner and creator.
Career opportunities
As a graduate of this program, you will have knowledge and skills in producing, directing, camera operation, sound recording, lighting, editing and scriptwriting.
You will be well prepared to adapt these skills across related industry areas of pre-production, production and post-production. You will also be able to recognise the diversity of forms, techniques and resources available in audiovisual media.
PORTFOLIO/INTERVIEW ASSESSMENT All applicants will be invited by GMIT to attend for a portfolio assessment. A short interview will form part of this assessment. Additionally, applicants competing on mature basis will be scored separately for ranking purposes. Assessments are usually held in March/April. Portfolio results will be issued by the Admissions Office in late May or early June. The portfolio/interview will be marked out of 600 points and those awarded 240 points or over will be deemed to have passed the Portfolio assessment. Applicants competing on mature basis will be scored out of 100 for mature interview. |
